Long Time, No Write!

Well, alot has happened since I last posted! I am now training for the Fargo Marathon Relay. I am excited about it. I finished One Hour Runner. I am now trying to build my pace, as my ultimate goal is to run my leg in 50 minutes.

On the weight front, I have gained about 7 pounds. I am not happy about this, but weight watchers has seemed to take a back seat to eating healthy and training. You see, I find it hard to eat really healthy on weight watchers, especially following the flex approach. I know that it's now called momentum, and I have been going in monthly to weigh in and keep my lifetime status. I am still doing ok as far as being under my goal weight. I am more interested right now in eating more whole grains and fruits, vegetables, etc, than counting points. I guess I am doing more of a core approach. Like I said, the weight creeped up over the winter, but I am hoping to take it back off as I get outside and vamp up the training!

We're getting a blizzard today. I am SO tired of winter. I hit the treadmill for my long training run for the week and made 8.11 miles in 80 minutes. I am happy with that! I burned off almost 950 calories!

I hope to take some measurements later, report them on my blog as well as my running stats, so that I can record the last 8 weeks of this training process.

Results of my last 5K

I was nervous. There was about 100 people there. Some looking like they run everyday, some looking like this was their first time. This was my second 5k. So, I remind myself I am not here to win, just to better my time.

We take off with the sound of the gun. We line up towards the back. I figure it's easier to overtake people than it is to hold your spot in the front. All of the people take off sprinting. The seasoned runners as well as the newbies. I know better, because kellydonut told me to hold back, set my pace in the beginning so I don't "blow my wad". I didn't want to blow my wad, too early, so I hang back.

We get about 2 blocks into it, the newbies are grabbing their sides and puffing for air. I check my heart rate. A nice 163, perfect. I am right where I want to be.

I start to enjoy people watching and just keep a steady pace. There is plenty of time to start passing. My son is hanging with me and looking good. He's got a big grin on his face.

I see a guy ahead of me who had a brain tumor last year. He's looking great. I pass him.

We take a turn and head down the highway. I feel good. Heartrate check shows 170. I hold back a little, we're only about half way through.

Here comes the water stand. Ok, now I know I am half done. I'm now able to find my zone. Nelly Furtado comes on my ipod. I know I'm looking good.

We enter the park entrance. Here comes the top finishers coming back through. I look behind me and don't see many people. I thought I passed more people than that. I panic a little and start to psyche myself to compete.

I see a cute young chick in a pink tank top and pick her out. I will try to get around her. I do. My heart rate gets up to 174. Is it too early for that? I see a guy in a red shirt. He's going a good pace. I set in right behind him. My heart rate is steady.

We pull out of the park, end of mile 2. Ok, that's only 4 laps. I settle in behind red shirt guy for a while. I pull up beside him. I run through puke.

Here are my son's friends at the water stand. They cheer for me. I wave. I found new energy. I think of Jillian Michaels on 30 day shred. She says, "Right when things start to get uncomfortable, that's when it matters most." "This is where you finish strong". End of mile 3, arrow shows that finish line.

I'm neck and neck with red shirt guy. I speed up, he speeds up, I speed up, he speeds up. We're neck and neck into the chute. I see some people I know. They cheer for me. I pour it on............................................

Red shirt pours it on and my legs could not keep up. He sneaks into the chute right before me. I see the clock 28:15!

We lined up for door prizes. They announce the winners per age group. 3rd place, ME!!!!!!!!

I can't believe it. My son hugs me and tells me he's proud of me. Those words were better than any medal.

On to training for my first 10k.

Busy Weekends

I always plan to get a whole ton of exercise on the weekends. I WI on Mondays, and I always think it will be so good to really hit it hard.

I never seem to get to it.

I'm going out later tonight for a run. Then, tomorrow, I will shred and belly dance and run, in between washing the car and washing windows and taking the boys to tee-ball.

Adding Fun to My Fitness Routine

Here is my new idea for adding a little fun to my fitness plan. I would love to learn to belly dance. This is the DVD I got. It's had so-so reviews, but I am just looking for some basics. I'm not really planning to use it for a hard core cardio workout or anything. Maybe I'll get some toning benefits from it, maybe it will just get me in tune with my body and be fun!

My workout buddy

Last night, I was doing Jillian Michaels "30 Day Shred" and my 2 year old was "exercising" with me. The cutest plank position you've ever seen.

He hung with 3 lbs weights for a lot longer than I expected, and then said "Oh, hard!"

He then laid down on my yoga mat.

I wanted to lay down with him but I finished, not gracefully or with the best form, but I did finish. We'll get better if we keep at it!

Found a 10k training plan

I think I will start to think about signing up for a 10k this fall. The plan I found on cool running is an 8 week plan. Should be feasible! I found the run I want to do. There isn't any registration forms yet. I will keep watching the website.

Now, it's just to DO it!

New Week - New Races?

I'm signing up for another race or two. I think I could get addicted. I've got one in the works for July and am thinking about a 10k in September.

I'll have to do some research on a training plan for this 10k. I know I have run a little over 4 miles before without problem, so I think I should have plenty of time to train.
